What's the big deal about "Ten Year Stuff?"

The appliance world changed 5 or 6 years ago when the industry began cutting its liability by limiting warranties.

Refrigerators used to have at least 5 year compressor warranties and washers most always had 5 year coverage. When smooth top ranges first came out, the glass and the burners were guaranteed from the factory or 5 years. All of that has changed.

Now, compressors are only covered for ONE YEAR! There are SOME new refrigerators with only a 90 day warranty! When the manufacturer suffers no liabilty for short-lived products, they can be made with less and less quality. Save a dollar or two to buy it; but it will cost you the price of the entire machine to replace it - and maybe more than that to repair it!
